Who's Who in Two w/Mimi Brown: Own Your SWAG

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

Full disclosure: I love Mimi Brown! She's vibrant, funny, giving, and talk about SWAG...she's got boatloads! So what exactly is SWAG? According to Mimi it's:

Stuff

We

All

Got

It's who we are, what we have to offer, what sets us apart. It's what makes you...YOU. A special thank you to Mimi for spending time with me and sharing her insight and wisdom. And as a special bonus, Mimi also shared her insight on leadership, and one of it's most important groups: emerging leaders. She shares how, although emerging leaders are vitally important to the trajectory of a business, they are often a forgotten piece of the company landscape.

PS. If Mimi looks familiar, perhaps you've seen her on WDIV's "Live in the D" on Monday mornings!

Interview Highlights:

Karyl: One of the reasons I wanted you all to meet Mimi is because she has a great program that she speaks about; it's all about swag. What it means to own your swag, how you go about getting your swag, all that stuff. So without further ado, I want to jump right in and talk about this. What are the essentials of SWAG?

Mimi:

So I think of the essentials as, what are your successes, what are the things you're really good at, what are the things you've accomplished in your life? What's the wisdom that you hold? What is your education, your knowledge, your background?

It's also your attitude about things and your achievements; because we all have a perspective. And then the last part is: gifts. What is your God-given talents and gifts that sometimes we take for granted?

Karyl: Well, I love what you're saying to me because, you know, only you can do you like you and only I can do me. We all have different experiences and different elements of our personality that will always come out different. So, I love that swag is what you got. And everybody has something totally different: a different perspective. I talked about that with my clients, too: you know your education may be the same as my education, but our viewpoint, plus our education makes it totally different. And that is swag is what I'm understanding. I love that.

So how do you get it? How do you develop it and how do you hone it?

Mimi: So how do you get it. Well, for me it's doing what I call a SWAG inventory. So it's going through that list of things that I identified earlier.

What it says, is that ... typically the things that are successes in my life are directly connected to what I'm already good at. And I don't think as people like we do that well enough.

I am an avid reader. And one of my favorite books is strength finders 2.0 it's by Donald Clifton, and Don Clifton is been hailed as one of the folks in the positive psychology arena and he said, typically we asked the wrong question. We ask what's wrong with people instead of asking what's right with people and so his perspective is that you get more out of life, you get more to your experience you're happier, more outgoing, gregarious when we focus in the areas that you have strengthened.

And so I think it's important for people to hone in on what successes that they've had and what they're really good at what are your natural talents and gifts. The inventory is to help give you a perspective on what does that look like and how do I chronicle and harness that.

As always, thank you for stopping by and remember...

Your image is your business®️
