Silver or Gold: 3 Ways to Determine What's Best for You

The Business of Image - Image Impact

Silver or gold? How do you know what’s right for you?

Many of us are jewelry junkies and have our share of both metals. However, do you ever feel like some pieces just look better on you? I'm not talking about style (believe me this matters), but rather how you can look washed out one minute and glowing and vibrant the next. How is this possible? It's just jewelry, for goodness sake!

If you're like many of us, you tend to gravitate to style rather than color or tone. My suggestion? It's time to give equal billing to both! (Scroll down to see some of my favorite pieces!)

Know your skin tone: Are You Cool or Warm? In the natural light, look at the veins on the inside of your wrists. Your skin tone is cool if your veins are blue in color and silver will be your best option. If your veins appear to be green, than gold is your best bet. Take it one step further and try on a gold necklace and then a silver necklace (again, make sure to use natural lighting). Really take a look at the results: do you look ready to conquer the day or ready to crawl back into bed? Don't worry, if you're not getting the answer that you'd hoped for, there's a solution...

Keep color in mind: Most of us like to wear both silver and gold tones. So how do we make it work with out looking washed out? Color! Choosing pieces that incorporate your favorite metal with colors that are complimentary to your skin tone, can be an instant way to brighten your look.

Important reminder: there are many factors that go into determining the "right" colors for you (including color psychology.) A good rule of thumb is that if you feel beautiful and confident than it's the right piece for you. Still unsure? Let's talk!

Get Creative:

Don't be afraid to get create your own color palette! Your outfit can be a great color guide to picking out jewelry. Choose pieces that match or that are complimentary. Wearing basic black? What better way to highlight creative and/or colorful jewelry pieces than on a monochromatic background.
